Vineyards and wine cellars in Southern Moravia

This cycling tour begins in one of the most famous Moravian winemaking regions, Velké Pavlovice, which has earned its fame not only for its fi rst-class wines, but also for its traditional wine cellars. One of the best known wine cellars in the Čejkovice region is Templářské cellars. We travel along Nové Mlýny dam, which is the largest water surface in Moravia and flows into the picturesque Pálava Highlands, a natural park with limestone karst scenery, beautiful flowers and the ruin of an gothic castle. This is a popular winemaking area and Mikulov also has the largest Jewish cemetery in central Europe. Travelling through the Mikulov region with its rich tradition of winemaking leads us to one of the most frequently visited chateaus – Lednice. From Mikulov we follow the route of the former “iron curtain“ close to the Austrian border to one of the oldest Czech towns, Znojmo, from where we travel to the Podyjí National Park and its old vineyards. We will also visit the chateau in Vranov nad Dyjí and then continue through the Czech Moravian Highlands to the historical town of Telč, which is UNESCO protected and it is a world cultural heritage.

The total length of the route is 270 km and is split into daily sightseeing sections from 30 to 62 km. The terrain is not too challenging, the trails are relatively fl at and easy. The high level of diffi culty comes with the Czech Moravian Highlands which is the eding point.
Itinerary:
Day 1
Meet in Prague, transport to Bořetice, hotel
accommodation and dinner.
Day 2
Trip around Bořetice, 59
km. The route takes us through vineyards and typical winemaking villages to the
Velké Pavlovice region. This area has the best cultivating conditions for red
wine grapes just like Modrý Portugal, Saint Laurent, André and Frankovka wines.
Dinner served in a typical private Moravian wine cellar, full of character. It
was the fi rst wine cellar established in 1794.
Day
3
Bořetice to Klentnice, 41 km. The tour starts with travelling
through vineyards, then a downhill stretch leads us to the large Nové Mlýny dam.
From here we travel uphill under the white limestone walls of the Pálava
Highlands and the ruins of the Sirotčí Hrádek castle, which are the fi nal
landmarks before we reach our boarding house.
Day 4
Trip
around Klentnice, 50 km. During the trip, visit the Lednice-Valtice grounds
including the Lednice Chateau and it’s 60 m high minaret, which offers splnded
views of the chateau park fi shponds, isles and the building’s romantic
Rendezvous - built in Roman architecture style. After dinner at the Mikulov
restaurant, we can walk to the Svatý Kopeček and visite its
chapel.
Day 5
From Klentnice to Dyjákovičky, 62 km. The vehicle accompanies us
during the journey to Znojmo. Accommodation organized in the historical centre
of the town, which is know as the Prague – Vienna Greenway cycle
path.
Day 6
Trip around Znojmo, 30 km. During this route,
we can admire the beauties of the Podyjí National Park. Afterwards a visit paied
to a famous painted cellar in Šatov. A tour around tour around the Znojmo
historical centre in the afternoon. Wine tasting and dinner held in a wine
cellar.
Day 7
From Jemnice to Telč, 31 km. The van brings
us to the picturesque chateau of Vranov nad Dyjí, with the possibility of
visiting the chateau. Our mainly hilly route starts in Jemnice and leads us
through the highest highland in the Czech Republic – the Czech Moravian
Highlands. It fi nishes in the historical town of Telč, which is UNESCO
protected.
Day 8
At midday sightseeing in Telč followed
by a transfer to Prague. The and of the programme.
