History Bummels around Prague

Not only the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, but also its surroundings offer a lot of experiences to the visitors, and opportunities to visit interesting places – unique cultural and historic places of interest and also nature curiosities. Your tour starts in a former royal town to the east of Prague, the town of Kutná Hora (UNESCO protected), known for its silver mines and the unique Kostnice Ossuary. From here you set out to the north along the largest river Labe.

Then you pop in to a unique world of sandstone rocks and towers of the Český Ráj Region, and also to the medieval times. In the birthplace of one of the most famous Czech and world composers, Antonín Dvořák, you can recall his work of art, and having passed by the summer house of the Czech presidents you reach the deep forests of the Křivoklát Region to the west of Prague, with its Křivoklát, Točník and Žebrák Castles. The region is well-known as a discovery site of fossilized trilobites. You get back to Prague via the Český Kras Karst – the largest cave system in the Czech Republic. Of course, you mustn´t forget to see the most famous Czech castle, Karlštejn.

The tour is 237 km long, divided into daily sections from 33 to 45 km long. In Česká Ráj and the Křivoklát Region the level of diffi culty is higher. Be ready for a steeper uphill and longer downhill rides. Along the river Labe a lowland terrain prevails and the diffi culty decreases. Schwierigkeitsgrad der Strecke ist niedrig.

Itinerary:

Day 1
Meeting point in Prague. Transfer to Kutná Hora. Accommodation, dinner.
Day 2
Kutná Hora to Poděbrady, 33 km. Tour around Kutná Hora. Visit of the medieval silver mines and unique Kostnice Ossuary containing bones of approximately 30.000 people. Along the river Labe to the spa town of Poděbrady.
Day 3
Poděbrady to Stará Boleslav, 45 km. Unique open-air museum in the town of Přerov nad Labem. The spa of Lázně Toušeň. The town of Stará Boleslav to the village of Dětenice by mini-bus. Accommodation in a rural hotel. Dinner in a medieval tavern – shocking experience!
Day 4
Sobotka to Drábské světničky, 38 km. Tour around the medieval brewery in Dětenice. To the nearby town of Sobotka by mini-bus. A more diffi cult cycling trip through a breathtaking scenery of the rock towns in Český ráj and unique castles of Trosky and Kost. Transfer via the town of Mladá Boleslav (Škoda car production, museum) to Mělník - the town above the confl uence of two important Czech rivers - the Vltava and Labe. Dinner in a wine tavern, local wines tasting.
Day 5
Mělník – Okoř, 40 km. From the vineyards of the river Labe region to the northern part of Prague. To the village of Nelahozeves and its Renaissance chateau well-known for a lot of collections. The village is the birthplace of a renowned Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. To the ruin of Okoř. To the village of Křivoklát by mini-bus. Accommodation.
Day 6
Křivoklát – Točník, 40 km. Optional tour around the Křivoklát Castle (national monument). Cycling tour through a wonderful valley of the river Berounka to the village of Skryje, the place known as a discovery site of trilobites. From here through the deep forests of the Křivoklát Region up the hill to the next castle – Točník. To the village of Karlštejn by mini-bus. Accommodation.
Day 7
Koněpruské jeskyně – Praha, 35 km. Tour around the Karlštejn Castle. Transfer to the Koněpruské jeskyně Caves by mini-bus. Optional tour around. Cycling trip along the river Berounka to its confl uence with the Vltava River. Then along the Vltava River past the steeplechase course in the Chuchle Quarter and to the Barrandovské skály Rocks. Here the tour ends. Transfer to the hotel by mini-bus. Accommodation, individual programme.
Day 8
Prague. Tour around the city in the morning. End of the programme in the afternoon.
